today, my family and I traveled to milan, italy. from lucerne to milan it was about a three and a half hour trip. once again, I was blown away by the views of the trip. after traveling for a while we finally arrived to our hotel and headed to our rooms. after settling in, two of my sisters and a few of my other family members and I headed on our way to a segway tour. my grandpa was leading us down the streets of milan. about three minutes into our trip, it starting pouring down rain. my sisters and I were trying to follow my grandpa as best we could, but we could not seem to catch up. we would be right behind him then suddenly we would have no idea where he was. finally we would find him again and we would continue. if we lost him, he would always wait for us or even find us when we did not have a clue where to go. he was not going to leave us, he was just leading us.
similar to the story with my grandpa, sometimes while walking through life we won’t have a clear view of Jesus, but He is always there. He is always leading us. we may be following right behind him, reading scripture, praying, surrounding ourselves with great, Jesus-loving friends, and suddenly you feel like He is distant. we begin to slack on the daily reading and praying and maybe we begin to even drift away from our friends; but Jesus always prevails. He will always be there for you, He has never left your side. no matter how many wrong streets you take or how many times you get lost in the pouring rain in foreign territory, He is there.
I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. -Ezekiel 34:16
Jesus is actively pursuing you. He is wanting to bring you from death to life, lost to found, injured to healthy. the amazing thing is, your wounds have been healed by the scars on Jesus’ hands. we are no longer chained to sin once we wholly surrender to Christ. you cannot give Jesus parts of your life. you cannot give Him your job situation and not trust Him with your dating situation. we cannot be part-time Christians because Jesus is not a part-time Savior. Jesus wants us to drop everything and follow Him. in John 1:43 Jesus tells Philip to follow him and Philip does it without hesitation. this shows the power and authority of Jesus. we need to respond the same way as Philip. with no hesitation; should we drop everything for Jesus. one of my favorite songs is “Clean” by Natalie Grant. it sings,
“I see shattered
You see whole
I see broken
But You see beautiful
And You’re helping me to believe
You’re restoring me piece by piece
There’s nothing too dirty that You can’t make worthy
You wash me in mercy
I am clean.”
this is the most beautiful picture anyone can paint of how Jesus views us. He knows we are shattered, but he chooses to make us whole again. He sees a dirty mess and yet he still chases after us in hopes to make us clean. when we feel broken and unlovable He sees our potential. He sees what an impact we can make on the world, He sees the person we can become with Him. this is why He is eagerly pursuing us. He does not see our failures, our sins, our messes. He sees our potential successes, our revelation, our peace; but success, revelation, and peace only come with Jesus.
when you are lost on random italian streets in the pouring rain, remember He is right beside you. He is not distant. He still near. do not think you are too dirty, too far, too broken. he specializes in making disasters into masterpieces.
